In collaboration with Penny Hydraulics Ltd, we are seeking to recruit a high-calibre mechanical / electro-mechanical engineering graduate to join us as a Mechanical Engineer.  In this role, you will be integral to a major strategic development for the company, helping to strengthen the product development function by the introduction and application of digital control engineering, modern engineering design, and computer-aided design and engineering (CAD/CAE) techniques.
Ideally, you will have a Master’s degree in advanced mechanical / electrical / control engineering, or equivalent, with significant product development, CAD/CAE, electrical and control engineering experience.  If you have a good first degree with extensive relevant industrial experience, this may also be acceptable.
You will have a sound understanding of controller programming, together with an appreciation of integrated manufacturing capability and manufacturing processes. You must be proactive and able to work efficiently, either independently or as part of a team, and have excellent communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
This opportunity comes with a range of benefits including a competitive salary (plus incentives including a significant individual training budget). Reviews and bonus-based rewards will be assessed as the project progresses. Residential off-site management training will be provided for you, free of charge.
You will also be entitled to pursue a Master’s level qualification, either as an MPhil or taught MSc, at no cost.  Although this appointment is initially for 24 months, for the right candidate it is likely that a permanent position will be available within the company upon successful completion of the project.
As a KTP Associate, you’ll work predominately at Penny Hydraulics Ltd., based in Clowne, Chesterfield, in addition to regular travel to the university to access facilities and attend meetings. You’ll ideally be able to start work with us in June or July 2024.
To give you some background on the company, and the role you will play, Penny Hydraulics Ltd recently acquired Sidetracker Engineering Ltd, a long-established manufacturer of multi-directional forklift trucks. In the late 1950s, Sidetracker patented a revolutionary multi-direction steering mechanism allowing the trucks to move sideways, forwards, and backwards. Since then, Sidetracker has developed multiple models of multi-directional reach trucks and sideloaders and now designs, manufactures and supports forklift trucks to various industry sectors such as metal and raw material stockholders, manufacturing and warehousing. The design of these trucks now needs to be developed to allow digital control and prepare the products for automation.
